Screw Template

Have you ever taken your plastic off and then, upon reinstallation, wondered which screws went exactly where. Now you realize that some have washers, some have washers with those tube things, and some are longer than others ?

I got a picture off of the web, printed it to the largest size that I could and drew lines to the location of the various screws. Then, I got some spray adhesive and mounted the picture on a piece of 1/8" hardboard. Spray a little clear lacquer on to protect it as you will likely need this again. Next, I drilled two holes at the end of each line (one hole for the left side screws, and one hole for the right side). As the screws come out of the plastic, I snap them into my template. The first time I did this, I was checking to see that the screws were consistent from one side to the other (they weren't - don't know if that's normal or I just messed up last time I took the plastic off). As you can see from my board, there are are couple missing; just came loose and fell out somewhere along the roadway.

For the computer inclined, I found that the picture printed too dark. I inserted the picture into Excel where there is a tool to lighten it. It also has fairly good drawing tools which I used to draw the lines and circles. I also put a white circle at each screw location. For those of you with better software tools you will likely be a bit ahead but you get the idea.
