PIAA Light Installation

Here's a PIAA installation from John O'Neil.

Drilled two holes at the top of each bar to fit the U-bolts.

Hung the two flatbars from the round fairing support. The flatbars in front of the support bar.

Lined up one of the light brackets on the two flatbars.

Bolted one light to the OUTSIDE LEFT of a lamp bracket and the other light to the OUTSIDE RIGHT of the same bracket.

Lined up the assembly to get the top of the lights approx 1/8" from the bottom of the headlight.

Drilled four holes for the 10-24 x 1/2" machine screws and marked if the flatbars were too long. Will depend on the lights and the bracket.

Took apart, cut flatbars to length, painted flat black and re-assembled.

Ended up not needing a support bar to prevent the bracket from rotating on the 5/8" fairing support (yet). Looks like the end of the u-bolt rests against the back of the headlight holder preventing the lights from rotating rearward.

Only real problem I had was I couldn't get a 5/8" stainless U-bolt from the local Home Depot. Had to get a 7/8" and persuade it to fit. Maybe a marine supply shop would have one.

Still a little concerned about clearance. Did a couple of fairly hard front brake stops and the lights seemed to still be in alignment far so good....

Used stainless for all fasteners and aluminum flat stock.

  • 2 - 5/8" U-bolt
  • 4 - 10-24 x 1/2 machine screws w/ washers and nuts
  • 2 - 1" wide flatbar stock by approx 4 1/4" Whatever thickness is stiff enough

These are Hella Optilux 1450 projector fog lights.

According to Susquehanna Motor Sports: Multi-Surface Lens Rectangular Fog, Black Die-cast Metal Housing, 4.33"w x 3.15"d x 2.6"h.
