Caution for all routes that include Wolfpen Gap Road

Wolfpen Gap Road is a very tight road, including 90º turns and one 180º hairpin. There are several 15 and 25 mph turns as well. Use caution.



Chicken Strip Eraser

Ride Time: 2:15
Distance: 80 miles

This short route will give you a taste of some of the best roads in North Georgia. From the Lodge, you will take Hwy 348, Richard B Russell Scenic Highway, which is full of twisties and transits Hogpen Gap. Next you will take Hwy 180, Wolf Pen Gap road, over Wolf Pen Gap. Once at Hwy 60, you can stop at Two Wheels Only of Suches (TWOS), where the Southeast Area Run With The Wolf Rally is held. There, you can rest in chairs on the covered deck and use the bathroom. Next you head south on Hwy 60, which is full of fun tight twisties, shortly after TWOS, you will transit Woody Gap. At the traffic circle is Stone Pile Gap, Trahlyta’s Grave, taking the third exit will take you to Turner’s Corner where you will take Hwy 129 over Neels Gap. Once over the Gap, you will pass Vogel State Park (where you previously turned onto Wolf Pen Gap Road) and just follow the roads you came on back to the Lodge.



Six Gap Route

Distance: 84 miles

This is a version of the “Chicken Strip Eraser” where you make a figure 8. You head north on Hwy 75 and then West on Hwy 180 and pick up the “Chicken Strip Eraser” at Hwy 180 & Hwy 348. 


Lake Burton Dam, Warwoman Rd, and Lake Glenville Loop

Ride Time: 3:45
Distance: 150 miles

This route will take you through three states: Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. You will transit the towns of Clayton, GA; Highlands, NC; Cashiers, NC; Franklin, NC; and Hiawassee, GA. All of these towns provide opportunities for fuel and food. You will experience the serene countryside of NE GA from Lake Burton Dam to Clayton, the epic Warwoman Rd from Clayton to Hwy 28, and the twisty Hwy 28 to Highlands. From Cashiers you will climb and ride along Lake Glenville, the highest elevation lake east of the Mississippi. You will then skirt Franklin, NC on Hwy 64, which has quick sweepers, to Hiawassee where you will head south on Hwy 75 back to Unicoi Lodge.



Wayah Road Loop

Ride Time: 3:37
Distance: 145 miles

This route will take you up past Andrews, NC to Wayah Rd., which follows Lake Nantahala. First you will take Hwy 348, Richard B Russell Scenic Skyway, then cut the corner using some back roads to Young Harris, where you will take some more back roads over US Hwy 64 to just short of US Hwy 74. You will take Fairview Rd. to Andrews, NC where you will take Januluska Rd. to Wayah Rd. US Hwy 64 takes you to Hiawassee and puts you on Hwy 75 back towards the Lodge.


Gum Log, Lake Nottely, Hwy 60 Loop

Distance: 145 miles

This route will take you on some of the lesser known roads, Town Creek School Rd, Track Rock Church Rd, Track Rock Gap, Crooked Creek Rd, Gumlog Rd, Nottely Dam Rd & Skeenah Gap Rd. The return leg will include some known roads, Hwy 60, Hwy 129 & Hwy 348, Richard B Russell Byway.



Hwy 60, Hiawassee Lake Dam, Joe Brown Highway

Ride Time: 4:20
Distance: 165 miles

CAUTION: the section from Hiawassee Dam to Murphy on Joe Brown Highway can be a tight road to ride for some riders. This highway has no advisory speed/curve signs. Use caution and ride your own ride.

This route will take you to Hwy 60, Stone Pile Gap/Trahlyta’s Grave, where you will ride about 34 miles of some of the best twisties in Georgia. Next over to Hiawassee Dam, where you will ride Joe Brown Hwy around Lake Hiawassee ending up in downtown Murphy, NC. Back roads will take you through Young Harris down to Hwy 180 where you will pick up Hwy 75 back to Unicoi Lodge.



Burnt Mountain, Double Gap, Aska, and Hwy 60

Ride Time: 4:21
Distance: 178 miles

This route will take you west of Unicoi Lodge, going through Dahlonega GA, past Amicalola Falls State Park, over Burnt Mtn (Hwy 136) and up to Ellijay GA. Next you will take some lesser known roads through The Chattahoochee National Forest, Big Creek Rd, Double Gap Rd, Aska Rd and end up in Blue Ridge GA. Next you head to Hwy 60 and ride the 34 miles south to Stone Pile Gap/Trahlyta’s Grave and work your way back to the Unicoi Lodge.



The Dam Tallulah Falls Loop

Ride Time: 3:25
Distance: 125 miles

This loop takes you up Hwy 348, Richard B Russell, to Hwy 180 and then back roads up to Blairsville GA. From there you will run US Hwy 76 through Young Harris and Hiawassee and take Hwy 197 south along Lake Burton. You will turn left along the dam and follow Lake Seed and Lake Raburn to Talluhah Falls. You will then take back roads to Hwy 17 through Helen and back to the Lodge.



Water Falls and BBQ

Ride Time: 5:00
Distance: 185 miles

This route will take you to Tallulah Falls, Toccoa Falls, Amicalola Falls, Desoto Falls, Helton Creek Falls & Anna Ruby Falls with many opportunities for BBQ along the way.



Just a Day's Ride

Ride Time: 8:35
Distance: 330 miles

This route includes Wolfpen Gap Road. See the caution at the top of the page.

An early departure is suggested for this route. From Unicoi Lodge, you will head to Clayton, GA and pick up Warwoman Rd to Hwy 28. You will follow Hwy 28 all the way to Hwy 129, Deal's Gap aka The Tail of the Dragon. You can run the Dragon up to the Calderwood Lake Overlook and then reverse course back towards Robbinsville, NC. Just before town, you will take Hwy 143 to the Cherohala Skyway to Tellico Plains TN. Warning, be sure to have enough fuel for a 52-mile run as there are not any gas stations on Hwy 143/129 until Tellico Plains. From Tellico Plains, you will head south on Hwy 68 to McCaysville, GA and then pick up Hwy 60 to Suches, GA. From Suches you will take Hwy 180, Wolfpen Gap Rd, to Hwy 129, then head South on Hwy 129 heading back to Unicoi Lodge.



Super Loop

Distance: 310 miles

This is an alternate version of "Just a Day's Ride."

Note: Ignore the time and distance on Google Maps. The reverse section is not included in the map.


Super Out and Back

Ride Time: 9:37
Distance: 367 miles

This route includes Wolfpen Gap Road. See the caution at the top of the page.

This is another version of the Super Loop. From Unicoi Lodge, take Hwy 348, Richard B Russell Hwy, to Hwy 180, Wolfpen Gap Rd, to Suches, GA. Head north on Hwy 68 to McCayesville, GA where you take Hwy 68 to Tellico Plains, TN. Take the Cherohala Skyway, Hwy 168, to Robbinsville and then Hwy 129 up to Deal's Gap, aka The Dragon. Take Hwy 28 to Hwy 143 back to the Cherohala and reverse your route back to Unicoi Lodge.

NOTE:

This route is a long day, if you need to shorten it, you can head directly back to Unicoi Lodge via Hiawassee from Robbinsville instead of heading back across the Cherohala Skyway. Total ride time would be 7 hours and cover 280 miles.




The Monster

Ride Time: 11:45
Distance: 440 miles

If you attempt this route, a sunrise departure is encouraged.

This is a longer version of the “Super Out and Back." You follow the Super Out and Back until you take a right to Robbinsville. Instead of continuing to follow the Super Out and Back route, you continue on Hwy 28 to Franklin, NC and then loop back on Wayah Rd to Robbinsville where you reverse your route.
